Greetings my great Legionnaire!
I am back with another indie comic review. Instead of a promotion, we’re doing a reaction. Thoughts? Opinions. So come with me in this deep dive of this intense horror Blood of the Grunch, by Clay Adams.
The Rundown
So we’re brought unto a remote island with a recovering(?) couple. They’re stressed and looking to unwind, at least. Scott and Casey. It seems to be an exclusive get away for a select few only called Luxuria. No doubt this is by design of the strange widow cult that runs the whole thing, but we’re a little in the dark here too at the moment. Once these pieces are moving we meet Guy, a jock type of chad. Casey is off-put by his presence, but I’ll let you read that yourself. I can tell you, those two are up to NO GOOD.
So once the couple are comfortable, a crazed widow peers through their window and speaks out against the resort in fear. They flip out and the head widow “deals” with the crazed woman. As their punishment is fulfilled within the widow organization, we then meet the Grunch. A great hulking goat reeled back to it’s haunches. It’s an imposing and strong creature that stalks the island, though, outside the Luxuria gates.
My Thoughts
This story holds no punches, and was a ton of fun. The characters all seem to have a little more going on under the surface and there’s a touch of spice. The most intriguing to me is the widow cult, as most questions surround this aspect of the story.
So, the story is solid. But the quality is outstanding! The art as a whole feels like a house style but it is so crispy and clean. The anatomy, dynamic shots, backgrounds and energy all work great together. Most importantly, the lettering is wonderful! When a read is fluid such as this one, it is certainly more entertaining. Perhaps something I fall short on in my own.
All these attributes brought together stitch a very nice comic, and I’m looking forward to the next.
