Greetings my loyalist,
I am ever exploring theories on dreams and how they work. After Jordan Peterson brought the Jungian/ Nietzsche ideals of dreams to my attention I have been fascinated. For whatever reason, many people don’t like these thinker’s opinions and hypothesis of dreams, or maybe the over reliance of this tool. Even so, these ideas that dreams help you stay sane makes so much sense. To experience amnesia and hallucinations would seem rather concerning for any other time. Though, for the unconscious to face fears, symbolically understand practical problems, and so on. It’s ideal.
This brings me to Eric Wargo. Eric holds to an interesting theory called the block universe. This is a simple and considered thought that everything is happening all at once, with no future, past, or present. Everything just -is-. This is linked to his idea of precognitive dreams, or dreams that can tell the future. More accurately though, access the block universe and convey what happens to you in the future. But it’s not a foretelling as much as it is a memory.
A woman stepped into Carl Jung’s office for his psychiatric and examination care. She describes in her dream a golden scarab being handed to her. During this explanation, a beetle local to the area that matched a scarab was tapping against the office window. Jung proceeded to open it and seize the beetle between his fingers. He stepped forward and notioned, “Here is your scarab.”
Jung calls this synchronicity, but Eric considers this to have been a time loop and recognition. That Carl handing the bug to her had already happened before and that her dream was remembering the event before it happened.
Now Eric has kept an extensive dream journal. Years and years of dreams. He said that year to date dreams seem to be pretty common and gave his own examples.
One was just a year a part and was akin to a astral projection. He could see himself looking into his wife’s shoes on the floor of their closet. He didn’t know why, he just was and their cat “weighed heavy on him” meaning his concern for his pet was high. The same dream had him in his study room seeing a pair of green eyes looking at him from a strange place. Right at almost a year, give a day, he had dropped an advil in the closet. Worried his cat would get it, he had to rummage through his wives shoes to find it. Later, he noticed two lights coming from a power source in his cables and he realized he dreamt this. He verified after looking back at his journal.
Listen to the episode below or go check it out on youtube or Spotify. The Why Files is always a very thorough and comprehensive source for thinking. I always recommend AJ and Heckle.
Precognition is an astounding proposal, and I am excited to try it for myself. I have my journal ready to go by the bed. It’s difficult to get yourself to write in the middle of the night, but I’m confident the effort will reap reward. Even if precognition isn’t the outcome, there are a ton of things I would like to visit in my subconscious.
Thank you all so much for reading!
